Principle of operation

Principle of heat pump is simple. Heat pump absorbs heat from the environment of the heated building (air, earth, or water) and convers it on a higher temperature level usable for heating and heating of domestic hot water. Conversion of heat on a higher temperature level is possible because of compression of refrigerant vapour in a compressor where it is heated. Heat pump can use this principle very effectively and by doing so it gains heat from the environment.

Heat pump is currently the most popular way of heating residential houses. It combines low operation costs of the house and ecology. With heat pump you can enjoy warm at your house for a fraction of the price compared to classic way of heating. Savings are between 50 and 80 %.

TYPES OF HEAT PUMPS

AIR/WATER

Type air/water uses heat from outside air.

It can produce heat everywhere and anytime! It is the most widely used type of heat pump acquires energy from outside air. This economic and ecological way of heating is the best option for residential houses with smaller plot. High technological level assures year-round heating of domestic hot water without any interruptions.

Practice example

Type of property:

Older residential house with heat loss of 14 kW, radiators

Solution design:

HP air/water with power of 17 kW. Year energy consumption for heating and DHW is approximately 32 MWh. Electricity consumption is ca. 5 MWh. Operation costs are with current heating and heating of DHW using gas 60 000 CZK. Electricity costs are 20 000 CZK. Renovation of old boiler room would be an investment around 60 000 CZK. New costs of heat pump with minimally the same comfort will be 38 000 CZK. With heat pump the house gets low rate of electricity not only for the heat pump but also for the whole operation. Year savings are about 42 000 CZK.

Payback period:

Less than 7 years with investment ca. 300 000 CZK.

EARTH/WATER COLLECTOR

Using large-area collector the heat from garden are is used.

The most advantageous heat pump for residential houses gets the heat from underground or geothermal water. It offers high heating standards year-round, best price/power ratio and primarily fast and easy realization. All of that without useless paperwork.

Type of property:

New residential house with heat loss 8 KW, floor heating

Solution design:

Heat pump earth/water with power of 8 kW. Yearly energy consumption on heating and heating of DHQ is ca. 22 MWh. Electricity consumption is ca. 4.5 MWh. Operation costs with heating and heating of domestic hot water using gas are ca. 40 000 CZK, for electricity 18 000 CZK. Potential investment in gas connection and gas boiler room is ca. 100 000 CZK. Costs for a heat pump are 25 000 CZK. With heat pump the house will get not only low rate of electricity for the heat pump but for whole operation. Year operation savings are 33 000 CZK.

Payback period:

Less than 8 years with investment of 330 000 CZK.

EARTH/WATER GEOTHERMAL BOREHOLE

It uses the heat from earth under the garden.

Earth absorbs up to 48 % of sunshine – heat pump derives energy from this reservoir during heating season and in summer it returns it back during cooling. Stable performance and high heat factor of the smart system can resist extremely low outside temperatures. It is spatially unpretentious, quiet and maintenance-free solution.

Older residential house with heat loss of 15 kW, radiators

Solution design:

Heat pump earth/water with powoário of 8 kW. Yearly energy consumption on heating and heating of DHW is 22 MWh. Electricity consumption is ca. 4.5 MWh. Operation costs with heating and heating of DHW using gas are 45 000 CZK, electricity costs are 18 000 CZK. Potential investment into gas connection and gas boiler room is ca. 100 000 CZK. Costs with heat pump are 25 000 CZK for the whole house. With heat pump the house will get not only low rate of electricity for the heat pump but for whole operation. Year operation savings are 33 000 CZK.

Payback period:

Less than 8 years with investment of 330 000 CZK.

WATER/WATER WELL

It uses the heat from ground or geothermal water.

The most effective heat pump offers great solution for heating and cooling of the house. Ground water is the warmest source of energy – it has a constant temperature around 10 degrees Celsius, which is unchangeable even when there are surface temperature changes. It is a great investment in residential houses or apartments.

Type of property:

Older residential house with heat loss of 18 kW, floor heating  

Solution design:

Heat pump earth/water with power of 17 kW. Yearly energy consumption on heating and heating of DHW is 38 MWh. Electricity consumption is ca. 5 MWh. Operation costs with heating and heating of DHW using gas are 70 000 CZK, electricity costs are 20 000 CZK. Renovation of the old boiler room would be an investment worth ca. 60 000 CZK. Costs with heat pump are 42 000 CZK for the whole house. With heat pump the house will get not only low rate of electricity for the heat pump but for whole operation. Year operation savings are 48 000 CZK.

Payback period:

Less than 8 years with investment of 380 000 CZK.

EARTH/WATER – WATER SURFACE

System with heat consumption from water surface.

Systems with heat consumption from water surface are thanks to its year-round stable heat and cool rate very interesting option of earth/water heat pumps. Inexpensive, quiet and maintenance-free solution with long service life and with up to 30 % lower electricity consumption than option air/water. All you need is to have a suitable pond at your land.

AIR/AIR

Heat pump with lowest acquisition costs.

It heats the air directly, without using any heating system which allows it to reach a higher heating rate than other heat pumps. It blows away all allergens, viruses, and other harmful substances and cleans and ionizes the air. Perfect option for cottages, cabins and houses heated with electric convector heaters.
